Samsung’s DDR6 to Double Bandwidth and Speed by 2024

Although it will not be easy to go into production immediately but to double the bandwidth and speed if DDR5 Samsung is designing DDR6 which will complete its model by 2024.

The expressed their expectation that DDR6 will have 12,800 Mbit/s on JEDEC modules and 17,000 Mbit/s on overclocking. Whereas DDR5 has 51.2 GB/s per module speed with 2 channels per module.

Samsung said they are following new gen of MSAP technology which is not new DDR6 modules. It already has been used in competitors’ DDR5 by SK Hynix and Micron.

They said Samsung will combine more layers to in DDR6 to achieve highest possible rating.

Graphics Double Data Rate 6 Synchronous Dynamic Random-Access Memory (GDDR6 SDRAM) is a type of synchronous graphics random-access memory (SGRAM) with a high-bandwidth, “double data rate” interface designed for use in graphics cards, game consoles, and high performance computing.

It is a type of GDDR SDRAM (graphics DDR SDRAM) and is the successor to GDDR5. Like GDDR5X, it uses QDR (Quadruple Data Rate) relative to Write Command Clock (WCK) and ODR (Octal Data Rate) relative to Command Clock.

DDR is one of the few technologies that remain primarily a parallel bus with a mix of single-ended and differential signals.

From the original DDR specifications to DDR5 and DDR6, the routing topologies and capabilities of these systems have evolved significantly over time.

The table below compares some critical specifications of DDR technologies up to the current DDR5 specification and the expected capabilities in the DDR6 specification.

Samsung says that DDR6 isn’t expected to be in commercial use until 2025. It’s also for modules now, so it will have to be integrated into RAM first to actually be used.

DDR5 is adopted by gamers only. so, expectation is that DDR6 will not be in use soon but it will be a new platform for those who will try to get latest updated one.

FAQs Related Samsung DDR6 to Double Bandwidth by 2024

What is the speed of Samsung GDDR6?

The new GDDR6 memory has a maximum speed of 24Gbps, which is a 30% speed increase above Samsung’s prior GDDR6 product’s maximum speed of 18Gbps. It is primarily used in high-performance computing (HPC), graphics, and other demanding applications.

What is the bandwidth of DDR6 RAM?

Max data rates for DDR6 are anticipated to reach 12,800 MBps on JEDEC modules and 17,000 MBps when overclocked.

How much faster is GDDR6 than GDDR5?

GDDR6 has better memory bandwidths and transfer rates than GDDR5, making it faster. The maximum data rate for GDDR6 is 16 Gbps, whereas the maximum data rate for GDDR5 is 8 Gbps.

What is the size of GDDR6 in GB?

The first graphics cards to use GDDR6 RAM from SK Hynix were anticipated to have 12 GB of RAM and a 384-bit memory bus, producing a bandwidth of 768 GB/s.

Is GDDR6 better than DDR5?

GDDR6 has better speed and power efficiency than DDR5. GDDR6 has a maximum data rate of 16 Gbps, whereas DDR5 has a maximum data rate of 6.4 Gbps. GDDR6 is also more power-efficient than DDR5 since it consumes less power.

Which Samsung RAM is the fastest?

The fastest LPDDR5X DRAM currently available in the market is from Samsung Electronics, which runs at 8.5Gbps.

How much RAM does Samsung have?

Samsung has developed the largest 512 GB DDR5 memory module on the market using a 10nm-class process and EUV technology, providing twice as much potential to support industry innovation. The doubled capacity can handle huge concurrent workloads with ease and also provides scalability for future innovation.
